Kanye West “Love Lockdown”
I’m not lovin you, the way I wanted to
What I had to do, had to run from you
I’m in love with you, but the vibe is wrong
And that haunted me, all the way home
So ya never know, never, never know
Never know enough, til it’s over love
Til we lose control, system overload
Screamin no, no, no, no, no
I’m not lovin you, way I wanted to
See I wanna move, but can’t escape from you
So I keep it low, keep a secret code
So everybody else don’t have to know
So keep ya love locked down, ya love locked down
So keep ya love locked down, ya love locked down
So keep ya love locked down, ya love locked down
You keep ya love locked down, you lose
I’m not lovin you, the way I wanted to
I can’t keep my cool, so I keep it true
I got somethin’ to lose, so I gotta move
I can’t keep myself, and still keep you too
So I keep in mind, when I’m on my own
Somewhere far from home, In the danger zone
How many times did it take fo’ I finally got through
you lose, you lose
I’m not lovin you, the way I wanted to
See I had to go, see I had to move
No more wastin’ time, we can’t wait for life
which is wastin’ time, where’s the finish line
So keep ya love locked down, ya love locked down
So keep ya love locked down, ya love locked down
So keep ya love locked down, ya love locked down
You keep ya love locked down, you lose
I’m not lovin you, the way I wanted to
I met no one new, I got no one new
No I said I’m through, but got love for you
But I’m not lovin you, the way I wanted to
Gotta keep it goin, keep the lovin gone
Keep it on a roll, only god knows
If I be with you, baby I’m confused
You choose, you choose
I’m not lovin you, the way I wanted to
Way I got to go, I dont need you
I been on this road, too many times before
I’m not lovin you, the way I wanted to
So keep ya love locked down, ya love locked down
Keepin ya love locked down, ya love locked down
Keepin ya love locked down, ya love locked down
Keepin ya love locked down, you lose
So keep ya love locked down, ya love locked down
Keepin ya love locked down, ya love locked down
If you keep ya love locked down, ya love locked down
Keepin ya love locked down, you lose

According to wikipedia, the term “work life balance” was first heard in the 1970s in Britain. In the conventional terms, it refers to the balance between an individual’s work and private life. Most of us thought of it as the balance between the time we spent at work and on our private life. This includes myself.
But today, work life balance took on a whole new meaning for me. I was in a feedback session for my interpersonal skills with a co-workers. She shared with me that in a corporate environment, one has to stay alert and manage the impact of how one’s natural traits affect others. My first reaction to this statement was that a life like that is hypocrisy.
Then I thought about it and agreed with her, because the people in that environment would affect our performance gradings. And we all know that the higher we climb on the career ladder, the less it is about our technical competencies and more emphasis is placed on our people skills, such as influencing and leadership.
Therefore I came to the concolusion that to maintain work life balance, one has to know that s/he has to please everybody at work. But s/he doesn’t have to aim for being friends with every co-workers. This way, s/he can maintain the balance in life by being who they are and befriend those who they truly enjoy. Because after working hard to have good relationship with every colleagues on a day-to-day basis, we all need that break when we could simply say: I don’t like you, work mate! I will find my own mate that I like!
Nevertheless, I am not ruling out the very lucky situations where we make true friends that we work with, or where the workplace is relatively small and the family feeling is stronger. I merely think it is very unlikely when we work in a big organisation.
The whole thing reminded me of an acquaintance of mine who is a doctor. She once said she doesn’t try to be nice in her personal life because for the majority of her days, she has to be nice and sensitive to her patients and their families and friends. She simply doesn’t have the energy or inclination to do all she can to please everybody when she comes off her shifts.
Hmm… work life balance… now you might see it in a completely new light too!
If I should stay,
I would only be in your way.
So I’ll go, but I know
I’ll think of you every step of the way.
And I will always love you.
I will always love you.
You, my darling you.
Bittersweet memories
that is all I’m taking with me.
So, goodbye. Please, don’t cry.
We both know I’m not what you need.
And I will always love you.
I will always love you.
I hope life treats you kind
And I hope you have all you’ve dreamed of.
And I wish to you, joy and happiness.
But above all this, I wish you love.
And I will always love you.
I will always love you.
I will always love you.
I will always love you.
I will always love you.
I will always love you.
You, darling, I love you.
Ooh, I’ll always, I’ll always love you.

Little somethin for my godson Elijah and a little girl named Corinne
[Verse One:]
Some say the blacker the berry, the sweeter the juice
I say the darker the flesh then the deeper the roots
I give a holler to my sisters on welfare
Tupac cares, and don’t nobody else care
And uhh, I know they like to beat ya down a lot
When you come around the block brothas clown a lot
But please don’t cry, dry your eyes, never let up
Forgive but don’t forget, girl keep your head up
And when he tells you you ain’t nuttin don’t believe him
And if he can’t learn to love you you should leave him
Cause sista you don’t need him
And I ain’t tryin to gas ya up, I just call em how I see em
You know it makes me unhappy (what’s that)
When brothas make babies, and leave a young mother to be a pappy
And since we all came from a woman
Got our name from a woman and our game from a woman
I wonder why we take from our women
Why we rape our women, do we hate our women?
I think it’s time to kill for our women
Time to heal our women, be real to our women
And if we don’t we’ll have a race of babies
That will hate the ladies, that make the babies
And since a man can’t make one
He has no right to tell a woman when and where to create one
So will the real men get up
I know you’re fed up ladies, but keep your head up
[Chorus]
Keep ya head up, oooo child things are gonna get easier
ooooo child things are gonna get brighter [2x]
[Verse Two:]
Aiyyo, I remember Marvin Gaye, used to sing ta me
He had me feelin like black was tha thing to be
And suddenly tha ghetto didn’t seem so tough
And though we had it rough, we always had enough
I huffed and puffed about my curfew and broke the rules
Ran with the local crew, and had a smoke or two
And I realize momma really paid the price
She nearly gave her life, to raise me right
And all I had ta give her was my pipe dream
Of how I’d rock the mic, and make it to tha bright screen
I’m tryin to make a dollar out of fifteen cents
It’s hard to be legit and still pay tha rent
And in the end it seems I’m headin for tha pen
I try and find my friends, but they’re blowin in the wind
Last night my buddy lost his whole family
It’s gonna take the man in me to conquer this insanity
It seems tha rain’ll never let up
I try to keep my head up, and still keep from gettin wet up
You know it’s funny when it rains it pours
They got money for wars, but can’t feed the poor
Say there ain’t no hope for the youth and the truth is
it ain’t no hope for tha future
And then they wonder why we crazy
I blame my mother, for turning my brother into a crack baby
We ain’t meant to survive, cause it’s a setup
And even though you’re fed up
Huh, ya got to keep your head up
[Chorus]
[Verse Three:]
And uhh
To all the ladies havin babies on they own
I know it’s kinda rough and you’re feelin all alone
Daddy’s long gone and he left you by ya lonesome
Thank the Lord for my kids, even if nobody else want em
Cause I think we can make it, in fact, I’m sure
And if you fall, stand tall and comeback for more
Cause ain’t nuttin worse than when your son
wants to kno why his daddy don’t love him no mo’
You can’t complain you was dealt this
hell of a hand without a man, feelin helpless
Because there’s too many things for you to deal with
Dying inside, but outside you’re looking fearless
While tears, is rollin down your cheeks
Ya steady hopin things don’t all down this week
Cause if it did, you couldn’t take it, and don’t blame me
I was given this world I didn’t make it
And now my son’s getten older and older and cold
From havin the world on his shoulders
While the rich kids is drivin Benz
I’m still tryin to hold on to my survivin friends
And it’s crazy, it seems it’ll never let up, but
please… you got to keep your head up
Big up old school tragedy Tupac Shakur or better known simply as 2Pac.
It feels like I should be writing in rap lingo, unfortunately I don’t know how to.
This reminded me of the lady who won the life time achievement award at this year’s MOBO Award, how she told the rappers to stop calling women names like ‘bitches’ and ‘whores’!
Mama Pac has everything to be proud of her son, she has raised him right, this song is a testament of that. I am definitely going to use it to teach my son how to respect women, and life!

This is not going to be about China
Instead it is about my birthday
Quite a few of my friends were pretty down on their birthday this year (we are all over 30s)
I, on the contrary, am quite content. A few things that helped me include:
- stay true to yourself and act on it (the latter is much harder)
- get a job that you enjoy
- set yourself manageable goals in life, e.g. clean one room everyday instead of the whole house within one day!
- treat yourself when you can, e.g. present, dining out, holiday, career break, etc.
- learn to appreciate everything in life (even the smallest), e.g. summer breeze in your face, family, a million dollar, etc.

It was reported by the Associated Press on Friday 11 May 2007 that (URL):
“President Chen Shui-bian on Friday made a final plea for Taiwan to be admitted as a member of the World Health Organization, three days ahead of a crucial meeting that will almost certainly reject his appeal.”
He also wrote “The Shunning of a State“ to the Washington Post, expressing his views on the secret pact of the WHO with China to allow Taiwan any meaningful participation subjecting to China’s approval, the presence of the Palestinian Authority and Malta Order of Chivalry in WHO, and the circulation of East Germany’s application to join the WHO in 1968 (in spite of rejection as a non-nation state).
Today (12 May 2007), Taiwanese are walking to “Be WHO! ” in Taipei and Kaohsiung.
My two pennies – The Western World IS increasingly giving in to ANY DEMAND of China, be it privacy breaches for its Internet censorship or denying Taiwan (formerly known as the Republic of China) any meaningful participation in the WHO (because it has no nation state status), due to the equally rising power of the Dragon in the East. The fact that the Director-General of WHO, Margaret Chan (former Director of Health in Hong Kong nominated to WHO by China who is said to be “too mindful to protocol even in emergencies” according to TIME.com’s Bryan Walsh), delivered the “not a nation state” reason, is sad and suspicious. The WHO’s greatest concern, according to Chan herself, ”must always rest with disadvantaged and vulnerable groups. These groups are often hidden, live in remote rural areas or shantytowns and have little political voice”. Talking about political voice, Taiwan certainly hasn’t got one, for nearly a century soon! Even if the reality for Taiwan to share the “one nation, two systems” model of Hong Kong is highly likely, Taiwanese as citizens of our world (which the United Nations is meant to guard) shouldn’t be refused the basic human rights of health in the immediate future! The country required help from the WHO for the earthquake in 1999 and SARS in 2003 to state the least. The Americans don’t support Taiwan’s application this time, even though seven senators wrote a petition to Margaret Chan, stressing that the decision on Taiwan’s application should lie with all the WHO’s member states. My instinctive suspicion is that the Westerners would rather let the people of Chinese origin to settle their own scores as usual, just like the old days in their colonial manners. However, living in a foreign land permanently myself, I choose to believe in the humanity we speak about so much in modern times. My last words are – we, as human beings, mustn’t sacrifice our moral values in the face of economic gains or political pressure and remember what goes round comes round.

I sent my ex mother-in-law a Christmas card, putting my new married name on the back of the envelope.
She sends me a card every Christmas, and this year is no exception. However, she sent it under my maiden name.
The last time I saw her was about one and half year after my separation from my ex-husband. Our wedding photo was still on display in their lounge.
It might be pure coincidence, but I have a slight suspicion that I am dealing with the “letting go” issue here. It is sweet to know that she really loves me, nevertheless I am really a Mrs Something Else now. I sincerely hope it will catch on in the very near future.

According to the American top expert in reading aloud, Jim Trelease (aged 65), “parents of children over the age of eight should turn off the sound so their child can only understand its favourite programme by reading the text on screen”.
I must admit I improved my English beyond grammar and vocabulary in text books through watching Chinese soaps with English subtitles. Hence, at least I myself is a proof that the claim is valid.
