According to the American top expert in reading aloud, Jim Trelease (aged 65), “parents of children over the age of eight should turn off the sound so their child can only understand its favourite programme by reading the text on screen”.
I must admit I improved my English beyond grammar and vocabulary in text books through watching Chinese soaps with English subtitles. Hence, at least I myself is a proof that the claim is valid.

fat lady!
shout the child in my neighbourhood
I walked on
ignored it
it was the sensible thing to do
But
deep down in my heart
I feel like shouting back!
so I guess I get to do it here on my blog
Ugly Child!
